Local food products as well as biological farming products can be found in a few shops in Naxos town. I am concerned how food is produced and personally favours the above food production methods. Locally produced food also often taste better, since it is fresher because of the short and fast distribution from the farm to the consumer.
Another interesting viewpoint when you focus on local food is that you can find local specialities only produced in the current area, in this case Naxos Island. Also within specific areas on Naxos there might be specialities not found elsewhere. For example in the village Koronos you can find the Koronos-cheese, a local milder variant of the feta-cheese. Another special cheese I like is the Myzithra cheese. I have tasted a variant made of goat milk from the slopes of Zeus, outside Filoti village.
- ΤΖΙΜΠΛΑΚΗΣ-TZIBLAKIS
This is a shop which sells traditional Naxos food products, such as herbs and spices, thyme honey, olives, extra virgin olive oil, wine, raki and finally several different types of cheese. You find the shop on Paravassiliou Street. Start from the water front and after around 100 meter you find the shop on the left hand. There is a special atmosphere in the shop and certainly strong aroma from the cheese. For more info, visit the website: tziblakis.googlepages.com . In the Naxos photo section, 2008, there is a photo from the entrance of the shop. This might give you and idea of this unique shop.
- Τνροκομια – Tyrokomia
In this shop you find Naxos traditional milk and food products, and biological farming products. This shop is a part of Naxos Cheese-Making Industry: www.tyrokomia-naxou.gr . This is a new lovely designed shop, embracing traditional Cycladic building style, which makes you want to enter! This shop is also on Paravassiliou Street a less than 100 metres from the water front and on the right side. There is a photo in the Naxos photo section, year 2008.
