Where to stay

Most accommodations are to be found in Livadia, which also is the harbour of the island. Every time a boat arrives an information kiosk opens, and on a huge board you can find photos and information about different accommodations.

However you can't find any prices there, which I consider to be bad service. Price is not everything when you look for a place to sleep, but for many its important, especially since a couple of years when prices in Greece seem to reach the sky. Before getting to Tilos I would recommend to read a couple of good guide books with current prices, or try to find information on the Internet. That way you are a little prepared when you choose accommodation.

There are some package tourism to Tilos and in the village you can find a few rather big hotels. Well, they are big compared to a small pension with a couple of rooms. In some of the hotels also independent tourists are welcome.

I'm a low budget traveller meaning, that I look for simple, yet clean rooms. There are several in this category in Livadia and I want to mention two:

Paraskevi Rooms, +3022460-442 80. This is a basic accommodation at the waterfront, close to the harbour, see image in the photo section. The room is simple but clean and has small and well-equipped kitchen. Mrs Paraskevi is a very friendly lady. I couple of times during my stay I was offered well cooked food or deserts. Nice gestures like that makes you feel welcome! The price for a double was €25 in mid June 2004.

If low price is very important I can recommend Sofia studios, +3022460-441 31, about 100 metres inland from Paraskevi Rooms. These studios/rooms is situated above a grocery shop, which was my main supplier during my stay on Tilos. The lowest price for a room mid June 2004 was €15.

Megalo Horio and Eristos Bay

If you prefer a quieter place than Livadia, if that is possible, you kind find few rooms in Megalo Horio in the northern part of the island. This is the islands capital and can be reached by bus. Here are also a few places to eat.

Some people like to have a room close to a good beach and if that is what you like, you have several accommodation possibilities in the area of the probably most popular beach on Tilos: Eristos bay. In this area you will find a few taverns to choose from and the region is also served by bus.
